Sloppy Joe

Not your traditional Sloppy Joe, and a heck of a lot tastier than Manwich!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ib 93% lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red or green bell pepper, diced
  • 15.5 oz can small red beans or pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • pinch Freshly ground black pepper
  • 16 shavings Vermont extra-sharp white cheddar
  • 8 hamburger buns

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Break up the ground beef and brown it and the onion in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until meat is no longer pink; drain
  • Add the garlic and cook 5 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the remaining ingredients, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Open up a bun and place a shaving of cheddar on the bottom half.
  • Scoop a half-cup of the Sloppy Joe onto the cheese, and top with another shaving of cheddar and then the top half of the bun.
  • Serve immediately while still warm.

Notes

If the cheese isn't melted enough you can put the sandwich in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to melt it more completely.
